(Harald Halberg Cigarr- og Tabaksfabriker) The company was renamed Mac Baren Tobacco Company in 1995, as the company had become synonymous with its successful Mac Baren line of pipe tobacco.

History

The company traces its history back to 1826 when Svend Bønnelycke (1800-1876) founded a tobacco factory in Svendborg. It was acquired in 1887 by Harald Halberg (1850' 1919) and was later taken over by his son Einar Halberg (born 1881) and grandson Jørgen Halberg (born 1915).

The company's most popular tobacco line is currently its Mixture line of pipe tobacco, introduced in 1958.

In 2013, Mac Baren bought Sutliff Tobacco, Pipe Tobacco Division in the US, and immediately renamed the company to its original name Sutliff Tobacco Company. Sutliff was subsequently appointed distributor of all Mac Baren products in the United States. In Sweden, 4 different varieties of pipe tobacco are currently sold
